The Value of Craft in Modernity

At the 2024 Ozark Folkways Fiber Fest, we spoke with craftspeople Jared Phillips, Emily Miller, Bryce Arroyos, and Lindsey Albin on the Value of Craft in Modernity. See the recording below!

Kids’ Fiber Camp

Each year Ozark Fibershed host Kids’ Fiber Camp with Ozark Folkways. Students ages 7 to 14 learn from local fiber artists how to transform wool straight off the sheep into beautiful finished pieces! At Kids’ Fiber Camp, students observe a professional sheep shearer, wash and dye wool, spin yarn on drop spindles, create miniature weavings, and needlefelt unique designs. Our hope is that, by gaining a better understanding of the fiber supply chain, students not only gain new skills but also gain a new appreciation for the textiles in their everyday lives.

Conversations and Community with Ozark Fibershed

On the evening of December 16, 2022, we gathered at Hillfolk Textile Studio + Shop’s pop-up location in Springdale, AR to discuss our regional fiber system. The panel, organized by Ozark Fibershed and moderated by Lindi and I (Abby), featured Bea Apple, Olivia Clanton, Linda Coffey, and Brandy Lee.

We discussed our fiber system from farm to fashion, identifying existing bright spots and the challenges that have prevented a fully local fiber supply chain. Read more about this event on the blog!
